My2cents on Health

Albert Einstein said, "The world is a dangerous place to live; not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don't do anything about it."  The same can be said of your health.  You need to take charge and do something about  ‘your own’ health.

It is said that unrefined salt contains up to 80 mineral elements that the body needs.  The salt that most of us have been using is stripped of all its nutritional value in the process of getting it to our tables.  Last month, I asked you to put your regular table salt in a glass overnight and see if it dissolved. Chances are it did not and this is perhaps the biggest indicator that it is creating and causing your body more harm than good.  The salt is heated up to 1200 degrees F in large kilns. This changes its chemical structure and depletes it of any nutritional value.  Then to make matters worse, it is mixed with additive elements such as aluminum silicate to keep it powdery and porous.   Aluminum is considered dangerous and one of the leading causes of Alzheimer.  According to Dr. Batmanghelidj’s book ‘Water for Health, for Healing, for Life’ it’s time you gave your body the water and salt it craves to survive.  He contributes many diseases as a result of poor hydration and the lack of essential nutrients to keep the body in homeostasis.  It seems you cannot have one without the other to balance out the different components each one is providing to your body.  This is a very complex subject and I strongly recommend if you are at all curious about how salt and water plays such an important role in your health, you should take the time to read one of Dr. Batmanghelidj’s books.

In simple terms, this is how I understand it.  Let’s say you drink a lot of unchlorinated water and are not using a lot of salt, namely unrefined sea salt.  The blood has to maintain a salt concentration so it will attempt to adjust this lack of salt by getting rid of any excess water, which would dilute the concentration of salt in the blood.  At the same time your body needs to be hydrated.  But if there is not enough salt to hold the water in proper solution in the body, you must release it and thereby become dehydrated.  Your body cannot do some of the basic maintenance to repair and heal itself everyday, if it is constantly trying to balance the lack of these two essential elements.  The body is in a state of alert under these circumstances and this in turn starts the process of dis-ease within the body.  Dr. Batmanghelidj’s books are filled with real life examples of people with amazing recoveries after simply changing their salt and water intake.  However he is cautionary and believes you should consult physicians before drastically changing your diet.

Batmanghelidj believes you should look for salt that is unrefined, hand-harvested and sun dried naturally to preserve all the nutrients.  The salt companies that are adding aluminum silicate to their salt will argue that there is no proof this is what causes disease.  This is the old ‘pointing fingers’ trick.  But if we just think about this subject for a moment, we would understand that it isn’t just one item or food that is solely contributing to our bad health but rather a combination of all the additives we consume in a day that is wreaking havoc in our bodies.  Our systems are overloaded with a host of toxins from the food we eat on a daily basis.  This food has minute traces of harmful additives to keep it preserved.  If our lifestyles gave us the time to watch our consumption of these silent killers, we could get this under control.  But realistically it isn’t going to happen unless we make the effort.  Everyone is so busy counting calories when in reality we should have ‘toxin counters’.  I believe eliminating toxins would have more relevance in our lives!  Which brings me back to the point that making simple choices like changing the salt you use on a daily basis to unrefined salt will and can make a difference.. it will lessen your daily toxin overload and begin to give your body the nutrients it’s craving.
Next on my2scents, I’ll tell you why lecithin is another one of my superfoods!  They say it works like a little vacuum cleaner in your blood!
